Shannon Wood

Shannon Wood is an artist, mother, wife and life long learner from Boonsboro Maryland. She was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington DC. Shannon began her professional art journey as a certified art teacher. She has taught art in the Maryland public school system for 12 years, working with both Special Education and Gen ED students. She also spent several years as a stay at home mom for her three children.

She is the proud parent of a disabled and an able-bodied child. Shannon’s first child passed away from Aicardi Syndrome in 2011. Her youngest child has chromosomal deletion syndrome and her middle child is able-bodied. Raising both an able-bodied and a disabled child, along with losing a child has shaped Shannon as both a person and an artist. Shannon is a big supporter of children with disabilities along with their caregivers. Her experiences are evident in her drawings of nature and its growth and change cycles.

Shannon loves exploring new materials and working with mixed media. She takes pleasure in discovering new materials and mixing them in with her favorites. Her favorite subject matter is nature: flowers, plants, animals and insects. She enjoys learning new techniques and researching everything art related. Shannon takes daily nature walks with her husband and her dog for inspiration and relaxation. She delights in visiting museums and zoos with her children.
